Alumni’s Opinion: How to be a good Alumni…

Everyone knows about the storied history of UNF baseball on the field, but off the field the UNF baseball program has a diverse, successful and passionate alumni base. While alumni can't help the program as a Friday night starter or clean up hitter, they can play a crucial role in helping the team achieve greatness. After many discussions amongst alumni, three (3) things stand out as controllable actions alumni can take to truly help the program.

Be Positive

Power of positive thinking

Give Back

BE POSITIVE

  • Have positive interactions, conversations and actions that move the program forward. “So What? Next Pitch” Don’t dwell on the past, don’t dwell on the negative, Don’t dwell on losses.

GIVE BACK TO THE PROGRAM

  • Recurring Monthly Donation

    • Set up a donations and keep it within your budget. People typically give between $5-$100 per month.

    • With over 500 UNF Baseball alumni, these small monthly donations can add up quickly.

    • 100% of this money goes to the Baseball team and can be spent however the coaching staff chooses to spend the money.

    • These amounts can also come with perks such as access to the Osprey Nest hospitality on gameday and team gear (team hats, shirts, etc.).

  • Annual Giving Day

    • Make a one time gift on Giving Day.

    • Giving Day is a fundraising initiative for the entire university.

    • During Alumni Townhall meetings we discuss what specific project we will try to fund on Giving Day.

    • The goal of this fundraising effort is to fund 1 or more large projects, typically related to facilities upgrades.

  • Fundraising Events

    • Whenever possible attend or help organize an event.

    • A few examples of these would include Blue Grey Bash, Alumni Weekend and Fore scholarships Golf Classic.

    • There is always room for another fundraising event for baseball, if budget is an issue then helping to organize and coordinate a fundraising event is a great way to help the program.

INCLUDE OTHERS

  • Spread the word to former teammates.

    • People might not know when alumni weekend is or what fundraising we are actively undertaking. Word of mouth has always been and will always be a powerful tool.
